This centre will be located either in the RICAIP premises of CTU Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics of or on the CTU campus. The centre is designed as a strategic gateway for South Korea-EU cooperation in robotics. It will be established and operated with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.
While CTU will provide the premises, the Korean side will oversee the establishment of the centre and subsequently ensure its operation and coordinate the participation of Korean companies and institutions. The aim is to jointly promote cooperation between industrial and academic entities from South Korea and the Czech Republic, and the European Union.
In the memorandum, both parties agreed on joint research and CTU students will have the opportunity to study at the centre. "CTU is an excellent institution in both education and research. Any such extension of cooperation enables our scientists and students to keep pace with the world's top," said CTU Rector Petracek after signing the memorandum.
"CTU has a great research capacity in areas where robotics and artificial intelligence are intertwined. The upcoming centre will contribute to further development in this area and will offer, among other things, new opportunities for contract research," added Prof. Tomáš Svoboda, Vice Dean of CTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering, who participated in the preparation of the memorandum.
Today's memorandum follows the documents signed between CTU and South Korea in September 2024. The cooperation involved Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics.
