Tadeáš Cienciala – Rope_ky
This year, the Association of Architecture Students at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague organized the 28th annual Olověný Dušan competition for the best architectural and design projects at the Faculty. This year's theme - without borders - was based on the transfer of the competition to the online environment and the resulting opportunity to address jurors from abroad. The international jury shared its experience with students and the general public in accompanying lectures, which preceded the announcement of the results. This took place at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning on 4 March, 2021

The aim of the competition is to provide a critical view of faculty teaching. As every year, the professional independent jury awarded the best projects and studios in the categories of architecture, including the study fields of Architecture and Urbanism, Landscape Architecture and Design. Every student of the faculty who submitted a semester studio project automatically participated in the competition.

In order to allow greater coherence between the jury and the students, the association decided to change the concept of announcing the results and abandon the elite concept of the competition focused on the formal gala evening and focused on making Olověný Dušan a rather friendly event, providing space to share the jury's practical experience lectures before the winners' announcement ceremony.

"We had hoped that the situation would allow us to make this lecture day  a reality on the faculty, but the covid situation did not favor this idea," says the organizer of the competition and the head of the association Emma Wald. "We sought moving the competition to an online environment as a challenge and an opportunity to compose the jury of architects and designers from abroad, not so limited by the fact that they would have to come to Prague in person," she adds. This year's Olověný Dušan was online, without borders.

The lectures, which were prepared for students and the general public by the international jury, can be watched at www.olovenydusan.cz.

Similarly to 2019, the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) of the Prague Institute of Planning and Development provided support for organizing the final announcement of results, as it was streamed live from its premises.

Results of the competition category Architecture

Filip Dias (stu.dere / Portugal), Benjamin Iborra (Mesura / Spain), Rozálie Kašparová (IPR Prague), Marek Obtulovič, (ODDO architects / Vietnam) and Andrej Olah (Grau Architects / Slovakia) accepted the invitation to the jury for the Architecture category.

The jury shortlisted two landscape-oriented studios, and out of these two, the Salzmann-Bečvářová studio, working at the faculty only for the second year, won the Olověný Dušan Award. Out of a dozen nominated individual projects, Jan Trpkoš took the statue home with his project triple (o) ko. It connects important places in the landscape through new, lost or existing structures and seeks dialogue between the spiritual and agricultural landscape.

Results in the Design category

The design jury included Simon Busse (Germany), Iza Rutkowska (Poland) and Adam Tureček and Kristina Ambrozová (AAKK Forever). Together they nominated two studios, the winner of which was the Fišer-Nezpěváková studio, which this semester focused on the design of objects consisting of 3D concrete printing technology and the design of seating furniture for the Andreu World International Design Contest 2020.

As the winning individual project in the design category, the jury selected Rope_ky - shoes made of one piece of rope, the author of which is the student Tadeáš Cienciala. "These are shoes that you will be able to make to measure," says Tadeáš Cienciala. The ropes have a lightweight sole elegantly connected at four points. They are compact and flexible, the author has increased the contact area at the heel and there is space for the thumbs thanks to the ends of the rope in the eyelets.
