On October 22, Prof. Petr Konvalinka, head of the Faculty's Experimental Center, chairman of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, and former rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague, was elected by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague as the nominee for dean of the faculty. After his appointment, he will replace the current dean of the faculty, Prof. Jiří Máca, whose second term ends on January 31, 2026.

Prof. Ing. Petr Konvalinka, CSc., FEng., is a graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, specializing in Structures and Transport Structures. In 2008, he was appointed professor at the Czech Technical University in Prague in the field of Theory of Building Structures and Materials. Since 2004, he has been the head of the Experimental Center of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, which focuses on the experimental investigation of building structures and materials, and participates in teaching civil engineering courses. In addition, Prof. Petr Konvalinka has participated in many grants and prestigious research projects. He is the author of several patents and utility models and a number of professional publications, particularly in the field of materials engineering with a focus on cement composites. From 2014 to 2018, he was the rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague and received several significant awards during his tenure. Since 2018, he has also been the chairman of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.

"My priority is to raise the prestige of the faculty and CTU, significantly support educational activities with a focus on modern approaches to teaching and greater use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, increase the number of high-quality applicants, and cooperate very intensively with industrial partners. In managing the faculty, I will emphasize communication, greater cooperation between departments, and interdisciplinarity. I will strive for greater involvement of academic staff in national, but especially international, research activities and in the establishment of start-ups. I want to develop the faculty as a respected institution with an emphasis on cooperation with important Czech and foreign institutions," says Prof. Petr Konvalinka, presenting his plans.

Another task that Prof. Petr Konvalinka has set himself as future dean is to establish an Industry Council, composed of industry leaders, and an International Advisory Board, composed of respected foreign experts.
